Meet the King

His Royal Highness Apollo Ssansa Kabumbuli II

Kamuswaga of Kooki

His Royal Highness Apollo Ssansa Kabumbuli II is the reigning Kamuswaga (King) of the Kooki Cultural Institution in Rakai District, Uganda. He ascended the throne in 2004, restoring the traditional leadership of Kooki after years of interruption when kingdoms were abolished in Uganda.

Born in 1971, he is the grandson of Yoweri Kayemba, a former Kamuswaga, and the son of the late Edward Mazinga. He was educated at Kimaanya Primary School, Kasasa Secondary School, and Makerere High School, later pursuing graphic design studies in the United States.

As a cultural leader, Kamuswaga Kabumbuli II is dedicated to:

  • Preserving and celebrating Kooki’s heritage and identity
  • Promoting education, hard work, and unity among his people
  • Leading environmental restoration projects such as tree planting campaigns
  • Advocating against child marriage and supporting youth empowerment

His reign blends cultural tradition with a forward-looking vision, making him both a custodian of history and a champion of development for the people of Kooki.
